Fishing For A Passion Dj Lauser
(Research final) 6/2/09

Fishing can be looked as a boring sport because really, all you do is just sit and wait for a bite. I'm not going to lie; it's one activity that can test your patience. However, I look at it in a whole other perspective because there's way more to it then just "sit and wait for a bite" it's about the little spark of feeling you get when your feeling those soft nibbles on your reel, it's about the suspense waiting for that fish to get hook, it's about the excitement, and the agony! To reeling that fish hoping it's hooked on good. Just look at it this way imagine you’re in class bored, tired, and all your thinking about is "I want to go home," but the school bell doesn't ring until five minutes. Now do you want the school bell to ring now or wait in agony for the bell to ring? Normally, you would want the bell to ring right away, but what's the fun in that? If you were to wait for the bell, you would get excited for every minute that passes that gets closer to the prize. When the bell finally does ring, you’re overwhelmed with happiness and relief. All that waiting, all that suspense, just made your prize much more meaningful. And that's how I feel about fishing sure it tends to get boring but that's the fun to it.
I guess you can say I have a passion for fishing because, I love fishing for numerous reasons. I started to love the sport when I was just a little toddler, my father taught me all the basics to fishing. When I asked him who taught him how to fish he said, "My father, who's father taught him, it's been a Lauser tradition as long as I can remember. All your aunts, uncles, and even cousins know how to fish, it's what the Lausers are all about." I was just about six years old when my father taught me how to prepare a fishing rod, and the basics to fishing like tying your fishing knots to add in the hooks, floaters, or sinkers.
It was a hot sunny day when my family and I were fishing. I dropped my line from my fishing pole on the side of a river in a fishing spot in California. I was only six years old, so I seriously didn't know what I was doing, I was practically just playing around when I felt my pole shake a bit then a few seconds later I suddenly felt this really hard force pulling down my line. I got so scared it felt like some one was trying to pull me into the water, I quickly jerk my pole all the way back not even using the hand reel then all you see is a fish flying in air the size no bigger then your palm, and me screaming and running like a little girl to my dad. The fish was twitching all over the ground and my dad held me and said "Congratulations you caught your first fish." It was scary but really fun. My dad then told me I had to eat the heart fresh while it's pumping to give me good luck for the next fishing trips to come. I obviously did not. And that was my experience catching my first fish.
Fishing is well known throughout the world, it's a global activity! It can be used as a sport, competition, food, money, or just for the fun. But what I bet you don't know is that there are a lot of different types of fishing. There's the common line fishing, deep-sea fishing, hand fishing (hand line or bare hands), bow fishing, ice fishing, kite fishing, traps, spear fishing, fly-fishing and much more. There's a lot of ways to catch fish! And there are used differently all throughout the world for instance, fly fishing is mainly used to catch trout or salmon usually in rivers or streams, but here in Oahu we don't have much streams, rivers, trout, or salmon so we usually prefer the just a simple fishing pole.
You may think that fishing is easy for those who haven't tried it but there's a lot to it, there are preparation, knowledge, timing, location, skill, and most of the time, luck. Every little thing has a key factor into fishing for example, preparation you can't just have a line and a hook to fish, you need bait, and extra equipment incase if your line snaps. Also you shouldn't rush preparation because minor details may hurt you badly while fishing, you can't just put a bait on a hook and drop it, you need to have it a certain way so it does not show the hook because fish are smart if there's light shining and reflecting on the hook, fish will know not to take it. Timing is a factor usually most biting activity occurs early in the morning and late afternoon because in the morning fish just woke up and their hungry, or late afternoon because fish try to find food before they go sleep. Knowledge, that's probably one of the most important, knowledge of locations, knowledge of fish, knowledge of preparation, and knowledge of regulations. Knowledge can come in handy such as when your a first timer and you catch a first fish but it's a puffer fish or also known as the "balloon fish" you should know these fish are not edible because they are poisonous and can cause "tetrodotoxin poisoning" if in gets in your body system. In special places such as Japan have highly skilled chefs where they server puffer fish and remove the poison but no matter how safe you are accidents do occur.
Fishing is well known because it's a primary source for food and plays a big roll in the economy today. It's because of this that the fish population is decreasing and in time some types of fish may become extinct. To prevent extinction the government has regulations that differ in different parts in the world. Some regulations are "only take x amount of this type of fish," even the size of a fish matters, if it's small, light and doesn't fit the size regulation, your suppose to throw it back. In certain places like Mexico, they do not have fishing regulations at all.
There's one really important aspect to why I love fishing. I love fishing mostly because it brings the family together! It's a family activity that everyone can do. Our family always goes out to fish, and we have picnics while the fishing poles are up and we just listen to music and tell stories, it's really fun. There's just so much to love about fishing, when you really get into it and it's late at night the stars are out and all you here is the sound of the calm water and just feeling soft nibbles on your pole, it puts you into a state of relaxation because it's so tranquil. There's much to love about fishing and that's why, fishing is my passion.

Fishing for a Passion (Icarus Draft)

Fishing can be looked as a boring sport, basically you just sit and wait for a bite. I'm not going to lie it's one activity that can test your patience. However, I look at it in a whole other perspective because there's a lot more to it then "sit and wait for a bite" there's preparation, knowledge, timing, location, skill, and most of the time, luck. Besides, fishing itself is only half the fun. I love fishing because it's a family activity that brings everyone together.
Fishing has been a Lauser tradition as long as I can remember. Every year we have a special gathering of our aunts, uncles, cousins etc. from California and it's like a mandatory thing for us to go out and go fishing. It's just a great feeling to be with your family and celebrating each catch and then have it grilled and served as our reward. And when the whole family is not together we just occasionally fish monthly.
Fishing is a world wide verb that is well known because it's a primary source for food and plays a big roll in the economy today. There are many types of fishing, ice fishing, deep sea fishing, net fishing, rod fishing, spear fishing, line fishing, traps, and a whole lot more.
I love fishing because of the excitement, the memories, and how it brings friends and family closer.

This I Believe Essay

Imagine waking up one morning to put on make-up, dye your hair pink, or maybe even shave your head bald, now you might think that this is a little out of the ordinary, but in reality people do these kind of things everyday. Now the question is why? Why would someone degrade them self or change there appearance ridiculously? The answer is simple. To "fit" in, again the question is why? Why would someone make there self stand out or spend hours trying to achieve that perfect look? Does the world actually give a damn to if your wearing the blue jeans or that yellow shirt? surprisingly, yes.

The problem in the world today is that we love perfection, we think that beauty is all there is. Take this scenario for example, your at the mall and you see this "not that bad" looking girl or boy walk by girl, but you just shrug and decide not to catch up or talk. Why? Because that person is not as attractive as you think someone should be. Truth be told, no one is perfect, unless your a seven inch barbie doll.

It is easy in the world today to live after the world's opinion. Why? because everywhere we go, we are constantly being judged by our faces, our bodies, and even by the clothes we wear. Which I believe is not right, I believe you should be yourself, don't waste your life finding that "perfect look" for I got news for you, you'll never find it. The only way to be perfect is to be yourself, your perfect the way you are. But I admit looking good helps a lot, it can even give you confidence to doing great things but just don't take it to a unhealthy level where you are over obsessed with your looks and to what everyone thinks.

Famous author William Shakespeare once said, God has given you one face, and you make yourself another. You were made to be yourself why impersonate another or pretend to be something your not?

Be the originator not the imitator... This... I believe.

Allusive Poem Revision

I venture through a long path,

A path I call, life.

encounter many problems,

but I'm always trying,

trying hard and always jumping to reach the stars.

But as time goes I begin to turn my back to what I wanted to achieve,

I start looking down to the things I couldn't get,

But I'm always moving forward,

looking for what lies ahead.

trying to move on..

looking for...

that other star.

Who Am I?

Well, some say I'm sly as a fox.
